FAQ about CamelBackpackers - A Phoenix Hostel

FAQ

Have questions? No problem! We'll be more than happy to answer your questions in person or over the phone. But here are a few of the most common:

Q. Is there an age limit?
A. Yes, you must be a minimum of 18 years old to stay at CamelBackpackers

Q. May locals stay in the hostel?
A. CamelBackpackers is created by travelers for travelers. We encourage local residents to come check us out, however overnight accommodations are only available for travelers from outside of Maricopa County.

Q. Do I have to have a membership to stay?
A. A what? No! CamelBackpackers does not require any memberships. No hoops, no hidden fees, just awesome.

Q. Should I make a reservation?
A. We recommend that you make a reservation because rooms can sometimes book quickly. Plus, we'd love to chat with you, so give us a call or reserve online today!

Q. What happens if my plans change? May I cancel my reservation?
A. Here at CamelBackpackers, we understand that change is part of the adventure! If something comes up and you must cancel your reservation, we ask that you let us know by noon (12:00 p.m.) the day prior to your scheduled arrival. If you are unable to give the cancellation notice within that window, your credit card will only be charged for the first night of your reservation.

Q. When is check-in?
A. Officially, check-in is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m daily. Unofficially, we have resident staff onsite 24 hours a day to greet you upon arrival. If you will be arriving before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m., please let us know in advance so we can be as prepared as possible for your arrival!

Q. What if I need to arrive earlier than 3 p.m.?
A. Drop off your bag and start exploring Phoenix! Or if you prefer, hang out in our spacious communal area until your bunk is ready for you. There's plenty to do: curl up on the couch with a book out of our lending library, catch up on your emails and Facebook with our free WiFi on hostel laptops, veg out on some Netflix, Wii, or TV, or chat it up with the staff and other guests.

Q. What if I need to arrive later than 8 p.m.?
A. No problem - please just let us know in advance so we can prepare to check you in after hours. If you are unable to get in touch with us beforehand, there is also a phone beside the front door at night that will be forwarded to the resident staff member on duty.

Q. Can I extend my stay past my reservation?
A. We would love to have you stay longer! Just keep in mind that reservations will be given first priority and all others will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Q. Is there a maximum stay?
A. Yes, we typically limit our guests to a one week stay. If you would like to stay in Phoenix longer, please speak with the staff and we may be able to work something out.

Q. How many people stay in each dorm?
A. We have two mixed dorms: one with six beds, one with eight. Each bed is for one person only.

Q. Are the rooms mixed gender?
A. Yes, our rooms are mixed gender rooms.

Q. May I request a bottom bunk?
A. Sure, when you get here! If we have a bottom bunk available when you check-in, it's all yours. We do not take advance reservations for bunks tho - they are first come, first serve.

Q. Does the hostel make an effort to be environmentally conscious?
A. Yes! We recycle and encourage our guests to turn off the lights and fans when they leave. We also regulate the temperature in the hostel and we have good insulation and windows to minimize energy use. Guests keep the same linen during their stay to minimize water and energy use.

Q. How is the tap-water?
A. You can definitely drink tap-water from the faucet. We also have filtered water and ice available from the fridge for our guests.

Q. Do I bring my own linen?
A. No need! We provide clean, fresh linens complimentary with your stay. 

Q. Do you allow pets?
A. No, unfortunately we do not allow pets, but we will help you to find a place for your pet to stay the night.

Q. Do you have secure storage and luggage storage?
A. We offer a $5/day lock rental for our lockers, but we can also store your luggage for up to 24 hours in a locked room if needed. Longer than 24 hours will be a $10 storage fee.

Q. Is the hostel safe?
A. Yes, the hostel is located in a safe neighborhood that provides security. We also have staff onsite 24 hours a day.

Q. What do you have for sale at the hostel?
We have toiletry items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, and deodorant for sale, and there is a convenience store within a 3-minute walk from the hostel for any other immediate needs you may have.

Q. What else is near the hostel?
A. Within walking distance, guests have access to emergency facilities, grocery and convenience stores, restaurants, bars, novelty stores, shopping and banking facilities, and sports centers! You can also access several cultural activities, museums, recreation centers using the easily accessible public transit. Just ask our staff and we'd be more than happy to help you get around.
